Two-week Immersive Homesteading Retreat for Adults

New Village Farm is offering a two-week overnight immersive homesteading retreat for adults. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are interested in pursuing homesteading or simply looking for a place to increase self-sufficiency while grounding in the rhythms of farm and nature. Daily workshops will introduce skills needed to maintain a homestead or small farm. Daily life on the farm creates ample opportunity to hone and perfect these abilities.

Mornings are spent tending to the daily necessities of the farm. This includes gardens and animals, providing hands on time to explore gardening, raising poultry, managing grass-fed dairy herds, and other growing and animal husbandry skills. The remainder of the morning is focused on a skill needed for an independent homestead. These workshops include, but are not limited to, mechanics, carpentry, training animals, animal husbandry, working with fiber, and cheese making.

Lunch is a community created meal made primarily from food harvested and raised at the farm. Guidance and support will be provided for creating delicious farm-sourced meals cooked over a fire, camp stove, or in the pizza oven built by participants in one of our workshops.

Afternoons create time for further exploration of skills introduced in workshops, personal projects, farm and garden tasks, exploring nearby lakes and hiking trails, or simply spending some quality time with our animals!

After the evening meal, we welcome visiting artisans teaching crafts, herbalism, and primitive skills or engage in downtime. Evenings also offer an opportunity to get to know each other through storytelling and whatever other talents our participants bring to the farm. Afterward, we’ll retire to our tents for a well-deserved rest.

This retreat not only offers the ability to learn and practice new skills, but also lends itself to deepening relationship with self, others, and nature. As we build our capacity to be independent, we are also building self-confidence and trust. Living and working with others outdoors allows us to build connection often absent in today’s world. Those with no previous farm experience or those looking to enhance their current knowledge are welcome!

Retreat runs May 31-June 13, registration is also available for single weeks May 31-June7 or June 8-13. Tuition is $1800 for both weeks and $1000 for a single week. Scholarships available.
